Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has dropped out of the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, clearing the way for former President Donald Trump.
The erstwhile U.S. ambassador to the United Nations ended her bid for the presidency on March 6, a day after Super Tuesday in which Trump won 14 out of 15 state primaries. She made the announcement before her supporters in the city of Charleston in her home state of South Carolina. While other candidates who withdrew offered their support for Trump – the GOP’s presumptive nominee – she refused to do so.
“I am filled with gratitude for the outpouring of support we’ve received from all across our great country. But the time has now come to suspend my campaign,” she told the crowd.
“I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that. I have no regrets. And although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe in.”
Haley also acknowledged in her March 6 speech that “in all likelihood, Trump will be the [GOP] nominee when [the Republican National Convention] meets in July.” She then congratulated him on the achievement and wished him well, but stopped short of endorsing him.
“I congratulate him and wish him well. I wish anyone well who would be America’s president. Our country is too precious to let our differences divide us.”
“I have always been a conservative Republican and supported the Republican nominee. But on this question, as she did on so many others, [the late former British Prime Minister] Margaret Thatcher provided some good advice when she said: ‘Never just follow the crowd. Always make up your own mind.”
Haley ultimately concluded that it is now up to Trump himself “to earn the votes of those in [the GOP] and beyond it who did not support him – and I hope he does.”
The former president reacted to news of Haley’s withdrawal through a post on his Truth Social account. He pointed out that the former governor of the Tar Heel State “got trounced” on Super Tuesday “in record-setting fashion.”
“Much of her money came from radical Left Democrats, as did many of her voters. Almost 50 percent, according to the polls,” Trump continued. “At this point, I hope she stays in the ‘race’ and fights it out until the end.” (Related: Matrixxx Grooove: Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign is backed by Democratic DARK MONEY – Brighteon.TV.)
The former president also invited Haley’s supporters to “join the greatest movement in the history of [the] nation,” He also stressed that President Joe Biden “is the enemy … destroying [the] country.”
“Haley exits the race winning only two primary contests during her campaign – one in the Washington, D.C. swamp and the other in Vermont,” Breitbart News mentioned. Before her withdrawal from the race on March 6, her other rivals for the GOP presidential nomination stepped back and yielded to Trump.
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both dropped out of the race following the Iowa caucuses in January, which Trump won. Haley landed in third place during the Hawkeye State’s primary election.
“I think it is true that we did not achieve the surprise that we wanted to deliver. As of this moment, we are going to suspend this presidential campaign. There is no path for me to be the next president,” Ramaswamy said on Jan. 15.
DeSantis meanwhile said on Jan. 21: “Following our second-place finish in Iowa, we’ve prayed and deliberated on the path forward. It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Trump another chance.”
Haley refused to drop out of the race despite the withdrawals of DeSantis and Ramaswamy. In between the Iowa caucuses and Super Tuesday, she consistently landed a distant second behind Trump. Unfortunately, it took the results of Super Tuesday for Haley to do the best thing.
